All certificates expire March 31 of even-numbered years, no grace period - it is illegal to work lapsed. To renew you must document 160 hours of paid CNA employment in the renewal period (U.S. or Canada) plus continuing education: 24 contact hours if certified 2+ years, 12 hours if certified more than 1 but less than 2 years, none if certified less than 1 year. Renewal fee $100 ($50 prorated if first issued on or after April 1, 2025). State application fees for initial certification total $275 ($100 application + $100 certification + $75 fingerprint) - that $275 is a state fee, separate from the Credentia exam fee, which was not confirmed on a primary page in this pass and is left null.

Lapsed up to 12 months: renew late. Lapsed more than 12 months but less than 5 years: apply for Reinstatement of Nurse Aide Certification (Form 08-4365). The Board reviews qualification options and decides whether you must retake the NNAAP competency exam through Credentia to reinstate.
Lapsed 5 years or more: certification cannot be reinstated. You must complete a new Board-approved training program (140 hours) and apply and test as a new applicant.
Fixed-date trap: everyone expires the same day - March 31 of even years - whatever date you were first certified, so a first certificate can be much shorter than 2 years. No grace period. The 5-year line is absolute for reinstatement.
Application fee: $275. Current, unencumbered certification in a U.S. state/territory or Canadian province/territory, proof of a state-approved training program meeting federal standards, and successful completion of a competency evaluation. Total state fee $275 ($100 application + $100 certification + $75 fingerprint), per the official endorsement application (Form 08-4070). A temporary certificate may be issued while the background check processes. Work-history requirement: Training must meet Alaska's standards - secondary sources state at least 140 total hours (60 classroom + 80 clinical/skills). If your original program was shorter, expect a gap determination by the Board.. Highest endorsement fee in this batch ($275, same as by-examination). Alaska is one of the few states that also accepts Canadian certification for endorsement.
