Guide · Pennsylvania renewal walkthrough · checked October 22, 2026
Pennsylvania runs a work-clock renewal system: To stay enrolled you must work for pay as a nurse aide in a nursing environment such as a nursing home, hospital, or home health setting for at least 8 hours (one documented day) during the previous 24 months of enrollment. Self-employed and private duty work do not count. The Department of Health mails a continued-enrollment notice about 90 days before expiration.
The Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry — renewal arrives by mail as a continued-enrollment packet — registry: Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry · 888-204-6249.
No renewal fee, and no CE requirement for registry renewal. (Your employer must provide at least 12 hours of in-service a year — that is the facility's duty, and it does not move your registry status.)
Pennsylvania renewal rides on a piece of mail. If the registry's address for you is stale, the packet never arrives and the enrollment lapses quietly — update your registry address every time you move; it is the cheapest step on this page. If you already lapsed for not working the documented day, the DOH testing page makes you eligible to test again with no new training — unless it has also been more than two years since you completed your training program, in which case a new PDE-approved program comes first.
Renewal instructions assume you're still inside the window. If you're not sure you are, run the status checker with your real dates first — it computes active, at-risk, or lapsed and names your cheapest route back. Your state's full rule table, lapse tiers, and transfer-in verdicts live on the Pennsylvania state page. The general mechanics behind every state's renewal are in CNA renewal, explained plainly.
